- Kickass Cowboys, Cops and Kisses
Just got back from four days in Vegas where I attended the RT Booklovers Convention. What impressed me most about the convention was all the fabulous romance readers and fans who attended. We truly have the best bunch of fans ever! I spoke with one woman from PA who goes to RT every year by herself – it’s her personal getaway. Another woman was there from FL with her two daughters who had offered her a cruise or the RT Convention for her Christmas/birthday gift, and this woman chose RT! These romance fans attended reader events (including Intrigue’s own “Kickass Cowboys, Cops and Kisses), book signings, and parties at night like the amazing Cirque du Punk party on Friday night.
I attended a few reader events myself (Cover Model Karaoke, anyone?), a few workshops, and a couple of those parties. The highlight of the event for me was the We ❤ Romance Harlequin Reader Event where I signed copies of Navy SEAL Spy. I love readers who love Harlequin. I had a choice spot between Brenda Jackson and Robyn Carr – lots of traffic at my table!
RT gave me a chance to catch up with old friends, check out some new books, learn some interesting info (writing the fight scene), play dress-up, eat chocolate, and most important of all, connect with romance readers. Viva Las Vegas!

I’ll be at the RT Booklovers Convention this week in Vegas and will be hosting an event with several other Intrigue authors (B.J. Daniels, HelenKay Dimon, Delores Fossen, Elle James, Beverly Long, Julie Miller, Joanna Wayne, and Danica Winters). “Kickass Cowboys, Cops and Kisses” will be a reader event with games, prizes, and a photo booth with a couple of hot cover models in attendance. If you’ll be at the convention, drop by for the fun on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in Amazon S.
I’ll also be signing copies of NAVY SEAL SPY at the We ❤ Romance Harlequin Reader Event on Friday from 2:45 – 3:45 PM in Amazon Q.
Other than those two events, I’m pretty much going to wing it and drop in on some workshops and reader events. High on my list is the 5th Annual Cover Model Karaoke, the Cirque du Punk party, and the Vintage Vegas Romance Casino. So, I’ll be wearing my author hat AND my reader hat and looking forward to a fantastic four-day extravaganza!
I hadn’t been to New York in over 20 years when I attended the Romance Writers of America conference there this summer. Since I was hopping on a plane for five hours, I decided to make a vacation out of it and my husband joined me after the conference. We stayed in the city another three days for a whirlwind of sightseeing that encompassed the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, the 9/11 Memorial Museum, the Tenement Museum, a walking tour of Soho, Little Italy, and Chinatown, and finally a Broadway show–Jersey Boys. I kid you not. We spent three days seeing all those sights–walking, taking subways and hailing the occasional taxi. We must’ve walked MILES. I had my Pacer app on my phone, but my phone kept dying so I don’t think the mileage was accurate, but each day we logged at least 7 miles.
But before the vacay, I enjoyed four days at the RWA conference. It was crazy crowded there; the noise level alone at the Literacy Book Signing was unreal. I got to sign books at the Harlequin book signing, as well. It’s so wonderful to connect with so many Harlequin readers in the same place. The Harlequin party was a blast, as usual, and this year it was special for me. I was recognized for publishing my 25th book for Harlequin! I was treated to a pre-party where I got my hair and (way too much) make-up done.
While my husband and I were trekking around NYC, we took a subway down to the Harlequin offices and my editor gave me a tour. It was interesting to see where it all happens!
I returned to L.A. invigorated and ready to write, but now I want to go back to NYC and see everything I missed this trip–the Chelsea Highline, Greenwich Village, a walking tour of Harlem…
On June 7, I had the opportunity to sign books before and after Jenny Noa’s one-woman show, Pulp & Prejudice: A Defense of Romance Novels. The show was Jenny’s hilarious take on why she loves reading romance novels. She’s smart and witty and a great comedian with impeccable timing and facial expressions. There was some gentle ribbing of the genre, along with her heartfelt appreciation of it, but the romance authors in the audience probably laughed louder than anyone else there.
I signed and gave away copies of UNDER FIRE, the first book in my Brothers in Arms: Retribution mini-series, which kicks off in July. I’m pretty sure I got my book in the hands of a few people who don’t typically read romance. But after the show, how could they NOT want to give it a try? After all, according to Jenny, who doesn’t like a happily ever after?
Happy to announce that I’m participating in a new Harlequin Special Release, TOUGH JUSTICE. All eight episodes will be available on Jan. 12th and we’re doing a blog tour to celebrate. Check them all out!
